Skillet Swiss Steak

Ingredients

  • 4 Wholesome Farms Direct Source-Verified 4 oz. cube steaks 
  • 1/2 tsp salt, divided
  • 1/4 tsp ground pepper
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil, divided
  • 1 large onion, cut into ½-inch-thick slices
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp chopped fresh thyme
  • 1 14-oz can whole tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees F.
  2. Season steaks with 1/4 teaspoon salt and pepper.
  3. Place flour in a shallow dish.
  4. Place steaks in dish and cover with flour.
  5. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  6. Cook steaks until browned over medium heat which should be 2 to 4 minutes per side.
  7. Transfer steaks to a baking sheet.
  8. Place in oven to keep warm.
  9. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in the pan over medium-high heat.
  10. Add onion slices.
  11. Cook 4 to 6 minutes until browned on both sides.
  12. Add bell pepper slices and stir.
  13. Cook 3 to 4 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
  14. Add garlic, thyme, and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
  15. Stir for 15 seconds.
  16. Add tomatoes with juice and the Worcestershire sauce.
  17. Stir and cook for 5 minutes until thickened. Scrape up any browned bits.
  18. Serve steaks with sauce on top.
