Getting “Caught Up”

Do you ever wake up in the morning, glance around at the chaos of your home, and silently vow that today will be the day you finally catch up? YUP me too….

Getting your house cleaned, kids shuttled to where the need to go, AND getting supper cooked on time will be like sitting on top of the world.

You’re not alone. The never-ending cycle of household responsibilities and hectic schedules can leave any mom feeling overwhelmed.

But what if I told you it doesn’t always have to feel like this.

Instead of beating yourself up for “falling behind”. Or fighting to get “caught up” again, I learned I can just reframe how I think about life.

Many of you say “I don’t know how you raise 7 kids and farm.’“ and friend, this is how….you shrug your shoulders and remind yourself that this is life.

I signed up for this…and by golly I’m going to love it, because I only get one life…my kids will only want just ME for so long.

Kids + Farming = lots of mess, laundry, meals, running, crying, fighting.

I know all of this comes with being a mom, so I just accepted reality.

And trust me, the piles of laundry or the dirty dishes sitting on your counter says nothing about who you are. It says nothing about how organized, happy, or present you are.

They’re just dishes.

They don’t have that kind of power over your life.

Only YOU can assign meaning to that.

SO WHAT DOES GETTING ‘CAUGHT UP’ EVEN MEAN?

If we all agree that raising kids is just messy, can you even envision a day where you aren’t continuously cooking, cleaning, running?

Unless you’re going to outsource ALL your dishes, laundry, cooking (which if you have the means for that, what are you waiting for?!?), it’s going to be a part of your everyday life.

You can either resent it and work to constantly chase an ever-moving finish line or you can accept it as a part of life and just do what needs to be done.

What would it mean to get “caught up”? Would it make you happier? Less stressed? More present?

Do you have to get caught up before you can be any of those things?

What if it were as easy as tidying the living room, putting in the next load of laundry, and accepting that the goal is NOT to get caught up?

The goal is to live.

And living is about more than dishes and laundry.

So let me help you start living again, let’s make supper stress-free tonight—you don’t even have to go searching for a recipe.

It’s an “oldie” but a “goodie”

Beer Can Chicken.

This recipe requires minimal prep and my kids love it! (my secret hack…I actually make 2 so I have leftovers for our next meal…your welcome)

Simply season a whole chicken with your favorite spices, pop it onto a beer can (or soda can, if you prefer), and let your oven or grill do the rest of the work. The result? Juicy, tender chicken with crispy skin that will have your family asking for seconds.

Seasonings I like:

2 tablespoons salt

2 tablespoons onion powder

2 teaspoons black pepper

2 teaspoons garlic powder
